Electric baffle door construction

Electric baffle door is a device used to control the flow of gas, dust or other media, which is widely used in industrial process control, especially in electric power, chemical industry, metallurgy and other industries. It is structurally designed to provide reliable isolation and conditioning functions. Here are the basic structural components of the electric flapper door and their functional descriptions:

Main structural components

  1. Blade (baffle)

  • It is usually formed by steel plate compression forming or casting, which has good strength and corrosion resistance.

  • The section of the blade is designed to be streamlined to reduce pressure losses as the medium passes through.

  • Spindle

    • For connecting the blade and the drive so that the blade can rotate about an axis.

    • Spindles are typically made of high-strength materials to withstand the load when the blades rotate.

  • outer frame

    • Formed by steel sheet compression molding, sections welding or casting for fixing blades and spindles.

    • The structural design of the outer frame should ensure sufficient rigidity and stability.

  • flange

    • For connecting baffle doors to ductwork.

    • The flanges should be designed to match the size and pressure class of the pipe.

  • Seal

    • Seals are located at the edge of the blade to prevent media leakage.

    • Common seal types include metal-to-metal seals, rubber seals, or air-filled seals.

  • Electric actuator

    • It is an electric device that drives the blade to rotate, and can be a gear motor, servo motor or other electric motor.

    • Actuators are typically connected to a control system for remote operation and automated control.

  • bearing

    • Used to support the spindle and ensure its smooth rotation.

    • Self-lubricating aligning spherical bearings should be selected for bearings to adapt to the deflection reaction force when the blade is under pressure.

  • Control unit

    • Includes a controller and sensors for monitoring the position and status of the baffle door and sending instructions to the actuator.

    • The control unit may also include emergency manual operation means to manually operate the flap door in the event of a power failure.

  • Sealed air interface(in some designs):

    • At the shaft end bearing of the baffle door, it is used to connect the sealing air to prevent the internal and external leakage of heat and keep the bearing in good working condition.

    Working Principle

The electric baffle door opens or closes the channel by driving the blade to rotate about the main axis by an electric actuator. When the channel needs to be closed, the blade rotates to the designated position and cooperates with the action of the seal to form a tight closure and prevent the medium from flowing. When the channel needs to be opened, the blade rotates away from the closed position, allowing the medium to pass freely.

The structural and functional design of electric baffle doors allows them to work reliably in harsh industrial environments, meeting stringent process control requirements. Depending on the specific application, baffle doors may also need to meet specific temperature, pressure, and corrosive media challenges, so there will be corresponding considerations in material selection and design.
