Proper Installation Method of Compensator

Compensators, also known as expansion joints or expansion joints, are used to absorb stresses in piping systems due to thermal expansion and contraction or structural displacement. Different types of compensators, such as bellows compensators, square compensators, drum compensators, etc., have different installation requirements. Here are some general methods for correctly installing the compensator:

Installation points of bellows compensator:

  1. Ensure coaxial: The bellows compensator should be kept coaxial with the pipe to ensure its proper operation.

  2. Direction of media flow: If there is a flow direction mark on the compensator, ensure that the direction of the arrow coincides with the direction of the media flow.

  3. Rear Installation: During pipeline installation, the bellows compensator is usually installed last to avoid damage to the compensator during installation.

  4. Prevent damage: Avoid welding slag or other mechanical damage to the bellows surface during installation.

Installation points of square compensator:

  1. Pre-stretching: Square compensators may require pre-stretching when installed, the exact amount of stretching depends on media temperature and design requirements.

  2. limiting device: After installation, remove the transport fixture according to the design requirements and adjust the limit device.

Installation points of circular compensator:

  1. Configuration bracket: The circular compensator shall be disposed between brackets with a radius of curvature at a distance of no more than 6m, and generally located between two fixed brackets.

Installation points of rubber compensator:

  1. Natural state: When installing, the rubber compensator should be in a natural state to avoid artificial deformation.

  2. Limit and support: Under certain conditions, such as pump outlet or pipe corner, fixed support or limiting device is required.

  3. Enhancement ring snap-in: When the flange rubber compensator is installed, the reinforcing ring should be completely snapped into the flange groove.

  4. Symmetrical tightening of bolts: The bolts should be tightened evenly and symmetrically to prevent damage to the rubber part.

  5. Extra protection: In harsh environments, in addition to flat washers, spring washers should also be used to prevent the nut from loosening.

Installation points of twistable compensator:

  1. Model specification matching: Make sure the model and specification of the compensator match the pipe.

  2. Flanged and bolted connections: Connect by flange and bolt according to the installation drawing requirements.

In all cases, the model, specification and piping configuration of the compensator should be checked before installation to ensure that the design requirements are met. After installation, the entire system should be inspected to ensure that there are no leakage spots and that the compensator can move freely to achieve the expected compensation function.

Please refer to the manufacturer's instruction manual for installation according to the specific compensator type and application environment, and consult a professional engineer if necessary.
