The installation process of a curved tube pressure balance type expansion joint (also known as a curved tube pressure balance corrugated compensator or expansion joint) requires attention to several details to ensure its proper operation and long-term stability. Here is an overview of the installation steps:
Determine the installation position: Curved tube pressure balance expansion joints are generally used on overhead straight pipelines, and horizontal installation is recommended. They are commonly used at corners of pipes or in space pipes connected to equipment, such as pumps and valves, compressors, steam turbines, and load-sensitive piping systems.
Inspection and Preparation: Before installation, ensure the integrity of the expansion joint and all related components and inspect for damage or defects. Also, make sure all necessary auxiliary components and fasteners are ready.
Installation of guide brackets and fixed brackets: The guide brackets should be sufficiently guided and the strength of the fixed brackets should meet the planning requirements to ensure that the expansion joints are not damaged. The proper installation of these brackets is critical to the performance of the expansion joint.
Install the expansion joint: Place the expansion joint in a predetermined position and make sure it is connected correctly to other pipes or equipment. During this process, special care should be taken to avoid torque or other mechanical damage to the expansion joint.
Adjusting small tie rods: In order to reduce the elastic reaction force of bellows expansion joints on the bearings, such bellows expansion joints can be pre-tensioned or pre-pressed before installation, which can be achieved by adjusting small tie rods on them. All small tie rods should be removed once the installation is complete.
Pressure testing: Pressure testing can be performed after the guide bracket and the fixed bracket are confirmed to be properly installed. Note that during the test, welding slag is not allowed to splash onto the bellows surface or subject the bellows to other mechanical damage.
Adjustment and completion: After the pipe system equipment is completed, the auxiliary positioning mechanism and fasteners used for equipment transportation and maintenance on the expansion joint shall be removed immediately, and the limit equipment shall be adjusted to the regular position according to the planning requirements, so that the pipe system can be fully compensated under environmental conditions.
Insulation treatment: Insulation layer should be made on the outer maintenance sleeve of the expansion joint, but insulation materials containing chlorine should not be used.
Please note that the above steps are general guidance and the specific installation process may vary depending on the specific application scenario and device specifications. Therefore, be sure to refer to the relevant installation manual or consult a professional for advice before proceeding with the installation.
