Metal compensator

A metal compensator is a device used in piping systems that is capable of absorbing axial, lateral, and angular displacements due to temperature changes, mechanical vibrations, or building settlement, among other things. In this way, it protects the piping system from stress damage caused by these factors and ensures the proper operation of the system.

Main Types

  1. bellows compensator: Consists of one or more bellows that can be expanded and contracted to absorb the thermal expansion and contraction of the pipe.

  2. Spherical compensator: Utilizing ball joints allows pipe to move in three directions.

  3. hinged compensator: Contains two or more connecting sections, allowing bending but limiting rotational motion.

  4. sleeve compensator: Typically consists of an inner tube and an outer tube, the inner tube can slide in the outer tube to accommodate changes in length.

Selection Considerations

  • displacement amount: A suitable compensator needs to be selected according to the expected maximum displacement amount.

  • Working pressure: The compensator must be able to withstand the maximum operating pressure within the pipeline.

  • Medium temperature: Different materials apply to different temperature ranges.

  • Installation space: Site conditions may limit the use of some types of compensators.

  • Maintenance requirements: Some designs are easier to inspect and repair than others.

Fields of application

Metal compensator is widely used in various fluid conveying pipeline systems such as steam, hot water, cold water and compressed air in petroleum, chemical industry, electric power, metallurgy and other industries.
