I. Structure and composition

The non-metallic expansion joint is composed of multi-layer functional material composite and mainly includes the following core components:

  1. Non-metallic skin: Core flexible component, usually composed of materials such as silicone rubber, fluororubber or PTFE coated glass fiber cloth, with sealing, corrosion resistance and vibration absorption functions.

  2. Metal frames and connectors: Includes flanges, connectors or platens for connection with pipes, materials can be selected according to working conditions carbon steel, stainless steel (304/316L) or corrosion-resistant alloy.

  3. Heat insulation layer and dust-proof layer: It is composed of aluminum silicate ceramic fiber, glass fiber wool and other materials, which is used to isolate high-temperature medium transfer and reduce heat loss. Part of the design contains stainless steel wire mesh to enhance structural stability.

  4. limiting and adjusting device: Such as tie rod bolts, used to control the compensation amount and prevent over-limit displacement.

II. Core Features

  1. Multi-directional compensation ability: It can absorb axial, transverse and angular displacements at the same time, and the compensation amount is significantly better than that of metal expansion joints, especially suitable for complex pipeline systems.

  2. No reverse thrust design: The flexible skin does not transmit force, reducing the load requirements on the bracket and equipment, and simplifying the engineering design.

  3. High temperature and corrosion resistance

  • The ordinary type has a temperature resistance of up to 300℃, which can be raised to higher temperatures (e.g. 500℃) by filling with thermal insulation material or using a fluororubber skin.

  • It is suitable for corrosive environments such as sulfur-containing flue gas and acid-alkali medium.

  • Noise and shock absorption: Fiber materials can effectively reduce the noise and vibration transmission of boilers, fans and other equipment.

  • Lightweight and Low Cost: There is no need for large support, easy installation and maintenance, and the comprehensive cost is lower than that of metal expansion joint.

  • III. Application fields

    • Energy and Environmental Protection: Flue duct of coal-fired power plant, desulfurization and denitrification system, flue gas treatment of waste incineration plant.

    • Industrial equipment: Boiler inlet and outlet, air preheater, dust removal system, high temperature gas pipeline.

    • Chemical Engineering and Metallurgy: Corrosive media conveying pipelines, kiln systems.

    V. Installation precautions

    1. Flange alignment: Make sure the sealing gasket is compatible with the medium and the bolts are evenly tightened to avoid stress concentration.

    2. Pre-adjustment: Pre-tension or compression by tie rod nut to avoid distortion caused by installation error.

    3. Thermal insulation: The skin part can not be additionally wrapped with heat insulation layer, and the heat dissipation space should be reserved.

    4. guide bracket: It needs to be used with fixed bracket to prevent unexpected external force damage.

    VI. Selection Suggestions

    According to the medium temperature, corrosivity and displacement, the skin material (such as silicone rubber is suitable for medium-temperature non-corrosive environment, and fluororubber is used for strong corrosive scenarios) and the structural form (straight cylinder type, flanged type or reduced diameter type) are selected.
