Non-metallic expansion joint material

Non-Metallic Expansion Joints, also known as Non-Metallic compensators, are devices made of Non-Metallic materials to absorb thermal Expansion, vibration, and displacement in piping systems. They are commonly used in high temperature, high pressure, corrosive or abrasive environments because non-metallic materials generally have good heat resistance, corrosion resistance, and sound absorption and shock absorption properties. The materials of non-metallic expansion joints mainly include:

  1. Fiber fabric: Such as glass fiber, graphite fiber, ceramic fiber, etc. These materials have good high temperature resistance and insulation, and are used to make skin or inner fabric layer.

  2. Rubber: Provides flexibility and sealing, suitable for low and medium temperature environments. Common types of rubber are natural rubber, nitrile rubber, neoprene, etc. They are selected according to different application environments.

  3. Silicone cloth: It has good high temperature resistance and sealing performance, and is often used in the external protective layer to prevent dust and impurities from entering the inside of the expansion joint.

  4. PTFE cloth: Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) cloth with excellent chemical stability and low coefficient of friction for use in corrosive environments.

  5. High-performance ceramic fiber cloth: It has extremely high heat resistance and chemical stability, suitable for extreme high temperature environments.

  6. Stainless steel wire mesh: It is used to strengthen the structure of the expansion joint to prevent the entry of impurities in the circulating medium, while also preventing the loss of internal heat insulation material.

  7. Insulation Material: Such as ceramic fiber, aluminum silicate fiber, etc., used to maintain the temperature inside the pipe and reduce heat loss.

  8. Metal frame: Although belonging to the metal part, it is used in combination with non-metallic materials to serve as support and fixation, and is usually made of materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, etc.

  9. Strips, tie rods, bolts, etc.: These metal fittings are used to connect and fasten components of non-metallic expansion joints.

The material selection of non-metallic expansion joints will be based on the specific requirements of their working environment, such as factors such as temperature range, media type, pressure level, and service life expectancy. These factors must be taken into account when designing and selecting materials to ensure the performance and safety of expansion joints.
